In 2024, Clare Lynch Design undertook the creation of a visual identity for the Arts programme of the Royal Dublin Society's Foundation. Part of this project involved the development of materials for the awards and initiatives of the programme, including that of the 2024 Visual Art Awards.
A system of simple graphic devices became the basis for the identity; a rotating oval (a nod to the silver medals once awarded by the society); dashes to represent the oval in motion at various angles; a restrained typographic system to give space for the use colour and image and a colour palette inspired by a Harry Clarke stained glass that depicts the original RDS minerva logo.
All aspects of the identity were considered from a digital perspective first as the Foundation moved to develop its online presence. The catalogue of the 2024 exhibition was created for viewing through ISSUU and QR codes were used by exhibition visitors to view the publication.

The catalogue contains links throughout — from clickable social media profiles for the artists to a video of interviews with the longlisted artists. While embracing all the functionality of a digital production, we also sought to retain some of the look and feel of a traditionally printed piece. This was done by using simulations of a half cover dust-jacket, colourplan papers, debossing, screenprint and creating a video of the three-dimensional mock-up to catch the attention of exhibition visitors.
The full catalogue can be seen here.
